Riding a bike, alternative to heavy exercise

Riding a bike

The last couple of weeks we have been benefitting from a couple of nice sunny days. Being somebody that does not actively sport, I try to take every chance to have a bit of exercise but that limits often to walking or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. However during spring and summer I tent to take more and more my bike to do grocery shopping, visiting a friend or just go out and about for a relaxing drive to clear the mind or while listening to an audio book. Doing this at my own pace allows me to have some exercise without actually wearing down my body, which I do not like…

Biking is fun for everyone

Biking is a fun sport for people of all ages. It is a great way to incorporate exercise into your life, while having a great time doing it. As I am often biking alone, family and friends can bike together, at parks, on bike trails, or almost at any place that they choose. It is the perfect sport for anyone, no matter if they are 7 or 70. All they have to do is go at their own pace, because any speed is beneficial. As long as it gets the body moving and the blood pumping, it is providing a great health boost.

There is no excuse for someone not to ride a bike. Even if they never learned how to ride a bike with two-wheels, there are adult-size fancy tricycles these days which do not require balance to ride. All you do is hop on and start peddling.

Encourage the kids, get them a bike

Bikes come in all styles, colors and sizes. There are tiny tricycles for toddlers who are just learning what a bike is. Then there are regular two-wheel bikes with training wheels attached, for kids five and up who want to learn to ride. After they ride for a while with the training wheels on, and start to feel comfortable, they can then have an adult remove the training wheels so they can attempt to ride without them. It might possibly be scary for the child at first, and they will probably have a few falls and/or bruises, but they will soon discover that the fun and freedom from bike riding was worth the effort.

Electric bike

Nowadays, you could even use a bike for professional commuting without arriving totally covered in sweat. The electric bike allows you to experience the feeling of a little push in the back, which might be necessary to concur that little hill or avoid a high heart rate so it feels more comfortable. I am referring here to the type of electric bike which only gives you power when you peddle, hence it stays a shared effort.

So, if you want to receive a great aerobic workout and have fun simultaneously, then try bike riding and you can’t go wrong.

Have a conscious day!
